TAM (Transportes Aéreos Meridionais – TAM Linhas Aéreas) is the largest airline in both Brazil and Latin America. The airline is privately owned and is affiliated with a cargo operation, as well as owning two subsidiary airlines:
- TAM Airlines (Paraguay)
- Pantanal Linhas Aereas (regional airline in Brazil – also a Star Alliance member)
TAM Airlines is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
TAM Airlines offers the traditional three cabin classes but in different versions:
- First class (long-haul)
- Business class (long-haul)
- Business class
- Economy class (long-haul)
- Economy class
According to the airline’s stylish and visually detailed website, the long-haul economy class seats are in a 3-4-3 configuration across the cabin, but this actually depends on the aircraft you are flying in. Each Economy class seat has its own entertainment screen, as well as a laptop power socket. Seat space and dimensions increases through the Business and First classes, and the latter comes with various comfort features. An interesting point is that the chauffeur service for the Business and First classes is not offered in Brazil as the traffic in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo prevents it.
The frequent flyer program is known as Multiplus Fidelidade.
TAM Airlines operates a fleet of 150 aircraft, mainly Airbus models, with fewer than ten Boeing planes. TAM is predominantly an Airbus customer and currently has more than 100 Airbus aircraft on order, but only ten from Boeing. No other make of aircraft is used by the airline in its commercial passenger service.
