General
North American Airlines (NAA) is an exclusively charter airline with a fleet of 10 large Boeing 757-200 and 767-300 aircraft. NAA used to provide scheduled flights but ceased all scheduled operations in 2008, citing the high price of jet fuel as the reason. Because NAA only provides chartered flights, it is not possible to supply exact destinations but generally the airline services the USA and Caribbean regions. However, since it is a charter airline, other destinations may be negotiated. USA President Barack Obama made use of an NAA plane during his presidential election campaign. NAA also transports military personnel and their families in cases where the destinations are not serviced by commercial airlines, as well as cargo to Gibraltar.
As NAA is a charter service, you need to apply to them for a quote as to the charter fee (flight cost). The cost of the flight includes all food and drinks, entertainment and other comforts. Because you are their private customer, they are prepared to negotiate other specific details of the flight arrangements with you on a customized basis. If your flight does not depart from JFK Airport in New York, your charter fee will include “ferry” flights to NAA’s base there.
If you are planning a trip in the USA and you are going to visit places not covered by the commercial mainstream airlines, it may be worth investigating NAA as an option if you are traveling as a large group of people for a specific purpose, such as a festival or a conference. However, be advised that the cost of chartering the plane may far exceed anything that you would ordinarily pay to a commercial airline and as such NAA may not be a viable option for lower budget travelers.
If you are based in South Africa and you decide to make use of a chartered service such as NAA, it is important to contact us so that we can advise and assist you on how to make the booking arrangements, as overseas charter airlines may be wary of doing business with people on other continents.
