General
EgyptAir is nationalised which is in the peculiar financial position of receiving no financial assistance from the Egyptian government, which owns it. The airline is also allowed to manage itself like a private company. It has six subsidiary interests, three of them airlines themselves and the others all involved in the aviation industry in some way.
EgyptAir services a smaller portfolio of routes than many other international airlines, but due to the geographical location of Egypt where it is based the airline has easier access to Europe, the Middle East and many parts of Africa. This may be why the airline does not have any of the larger passenger jets in its fleet – since it offers only one trans-Atlantic flight to the Americas, there is less of a need to operate long-haul aircraft than other airlines may have.
EgyptAir operates a fleet of about 80 aircraft. The airline does not make use of any of the modern superjets such as the Airbus A380 or the Boeing 787, or even the Boeing 747. There is a small fleet of cargo planes.
EgyptAir offers three cabin classes:
- First Class
- Business Class
- Economy Class
Catering on the flights is not as lavish as on higher-rated airlines, and no alcohol is served. However, if you have business interests, employment or family in Egypt, or you just want to take a holiday there, EgyptAir is a prime option in your travel enquiries because it offers direct flights to Cairo.
