General
easyJet Airline Company Limited (easyJet) is an international airline based in the UK. It is a low-cost carrier. It has one subsidiary airline – EasyJet Switzerland.
easyJet only provides one cabin class, which is in keeping with its role as a low-cost carrier. The seating layout is high-density, so do not expect much legroom compared to other airlines. There is no catering included in the ticket price, but there is a buy-on-board service called Easyjet Bistro. There is no in-flight entertainment either, but the airline does sell headphones and makes a monthly in-flight magazine available to passengers.
easyJet has a very young fleet by industry standards – the planes have an average age of only 3.6 years. easyJet only uses aircraft in the Airbus A320 family, with about 150 A319s (more than any other airline) and more than 60 A320s, some of which are still on order at the moment. This model of aircraft is suitable for a short and medium-range airline, and also suits the low-cost business strategy of easyJet. It is interesting to note that until 2002, easyJet only operated Boeing 737 aircraft, but has since switched entirely to Airbus.
If you are interested in flying with easyJet but you are based in South Africa, take note that easyJet’s business model attempts to eliminate travel agents, and travel agents do not earn any commission when they make a booking with the airline. However, you may experience difficulty in making a booking with easyJet from South Africa, so you are advized to contact us for advice.
