General
Copa Airlines (Compañía Panameña de Aviación) is the national flag carrier of Panama. The airline is privately owned and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Copa Airlines has won numerous airline awards in Central America in the last decade.
Copa Airlines provides two cabin classes:
- Business class
- Economy class
On both classes, catering is included in the ticket price, and allows for specific dietary requirements. Depending on the nature of the flight, bedding may be provided in the Business class, which also has a speciality rum selection. The Boeing 737 planes have an in-flight entertainment system and there is also an on-board magazine.
The frequent flyer program is called OnePass.
Copa Airlines operates a fleet of 73 aircraft, consisting roughly of two thirds Boeing 737s and one third Embraer E-190s. No other planes are in service. The Embraer jets are not surprising because they are manufactured in South America, but the airline also has 62 new generation Boeing 737s on order at the moment, showing a firm commitment to Boeing and more specifically to the 737 model. The 737s will take as long as 2018 to deliver and Copa Airlines is to be the launch customer of the 737NG Sky Interior in Latin America. The airline therefore operates no wide-bodied aircraft and its route network does not require it to.
Safety-wise, Copa Airlines has been in operation since 1947 and has had only one fatal accident, in 1992.
